I have seen very few cauliflower ears in Judo or wrestling in the U.S. Cauliflower ears are also considered somewhat of a badge of courage in Japan so they are rarely treated (though this is changing).
In wrestling ear damage happens more often, atleast in freestyle and greco, than in judo since folks in judo have the gi to grip instead of headlocks and chin rips that wrestlers tend to do.
I'm a woman, and I had a " cauliflower" ear last week, my first! I had been reading this post and wondered how people got them, or if they were common enough to need guards, the very next day at my club we had a mini shiai.
