The Venetian Causeway crosses Biscayne Bay between the City of Miami on the mainland and City of Miami Beach on a barrier island in southern Florida.
The man-made Venetian Islands and non-bridge portions of the causeway were created by materials which came from the dredging of the bay.
The Venetian Causeway follows the original route of the Collins Bridge, a wooden 2/5 mile-long structure built in 1913 by John S. Collins and Carl G. Fisher which opened up the barrier island for unprecedented growth and development.

Pedigree Profile: Noble Causeway - bloodhorse.com
Noble Causeway shows promise of becoming the first of his sire's progeny to break through on the main track, having hung up a nice allowance win at Gulfstream on the same card as the grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes (won by his stablemate High Fly).
Although Giant's Causeway has the genetic background to sire a 10-furlong horse, there are plenty of speed elements in his pedigree, and Noble Causeway is pioneering new territory for his sire's offspring in more ways than one.
Noble Causeway still has to prove he belongs in the Derby, but his most recent races suggest that he has inherited both the stamina to get a distance and the turn of foot to be tactically dangerous.

JFK Causeway Project   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Because much of the fill section for the JFK Causeway was at an elevation of less than 3-ft above the mean high tide, traffic on the causeway was impacted by storm or tidal conditions which flood the causeway (see photos), temporarily closing one or more lanes of traffic.
Raising the JFK Causeway to a minimum 9-ft elevation above mean high tide has increased the "window" for evacuation during periods of seasonal high tides and those associated with tropical storm activity.
Raising the causeway to a minimum of 9-ft above mean high tide required the filling of approximately 14.2 acres of waters of the United States, including wetlands.

 Yolo Causeway - Davis Wiki
The Yolo Causeway is the stretch of the 80 linking Davis and Sacramento; completed in May 1916 and spanning the Yolo Bypass, this stretch of the 1928 Lincoln Highway allows passage during rainy months when swollen creeks and rivers are diverted into the bypass.
Should flooding ever result in a massive evacuation from either side of the causeway, be forewarned that Yolo County has a contractor ready to send forklifts to both sides of the causeway to keep traffic flowing.
The causeway crosses an approximate 25,500-acre area known as the Yolo Bypass floodway which is a model of a public-private partnership that shows that wildlife, flood control and agriculture can co-exist in a largely urban setting.

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the longest highway bridge over water in the entire world, spanning 23.9 miles from Metairie on the South Shore to St. Tammany Parish on the North Shore.
Although the Causeway Commission previously maintained offices and toll booths on each side of the Lake Pontchartrain, on May 5, 1999 the Metairie south shore booths were taken out of service and the $1.50 toll was eliminated to reduce traffic congestion on the south shore's Causeway Boulevard.
However, the north shore toll charge was doubled from $1.50 to a total fee of $3.00 to cross the bridge in a southerly direction only (heading from the north shore toward Metairie), to make up for the elimination of the north bound toll.

The causeway rock-fill was only semipermeable, so it reduced north- south flow, splitting the lake into two parts.
