The upper part of the cavea was supported by vaulted galleries as the height of the hill on which it leaned was not sufficient.
Apart from the entrance and exit doors on the east, west and the upper part of the cavea, the passage extending on the west side, from the top row of seats to the lowest one, was built to facilitate the exits.
The extant walls and the tower standing on the cavea of the theatre, are the walls for the citadel built in the Byzantine period.

The cavea is the part of the theatre where the spectators were seated to watch the performances.
The cavea is divided into two principal sections (maeniana) by a large passage (praecinctio) found at the height of the 12th step, in correspondence with the head of the three connecting passages (vomitoria) between the ambulatory located behind them.
The cavea is covered by radial, vaulted spaces and the external perimeter is delimited by the ambulatory (ambulacrum), a wide curvilinear corridor with a height of 5.50 m, covered by a barrel vault in concrete that supported a secondary corridor.

The three structural spines are an integral part of the three closed sides of the cavea, and the oblique ribs of the cavea originate from the a- and b-spines.
The wall of the cavea is in some specimens perforated by a few small sub-circular pores, which tend to be arranged linearly close to the ribs.
The anticuspidal part of the cavea tends to be globose, elliptical in transverse section; the apertural part with its fringing spines is straight-sided when viewed perpendicularly to the plane of the structural spines, somewhat flared when viewed along the plane of the structural spines, and approximately circular in transverse section.
