Cayetano Coll y Toste (November 30, 1850-November 19, 1930) born in the City of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, was a historian and writer
In 1872, Coll y Toste went to Barcelona, Spain and enrolled the "School of Medicine" of the University of Barcelona.
After the war, Coll y Toste was named "Civil Secretary" and in 1900 "Commissioner of the Interior" by General Davis the military governor appointed by the United States.

One of the first legends retold in Puerto Rico is that of Guanina by Dr. Cayetano Coll y Toste.
Once the Taino Indians had proven that the Spaniards were not immortal through the death of Diego Salcedo, they rebelled.
The original retelling by Cayetano Coll y Toste was written in the style of the early nineteenth century with words which would be difficult to understand today by many adults and children.
