Cayuga is an Iroquoian language of the Northeast Woodlands.
Between one and two hundred Cayuga people still speak the language today, most in Ontario (though there are still a few Cayuga-speaking elders in New York State.) The language has been in decline, but some young people are working to keep their ancestral language alive.

The Aanishnaabeg languages were originally spoken by what is known as the Three Fires Confederacy Nations and they are the: Ojibwe, Potawatomi and Odawa.

The four languages which have become extinct are an influential part that must be understood in order to fully comprehend the language family.
It is interesting to note that a lot of the languages within the family are spoken in the United States as well as in Canada (Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca in NY and Cherokee in North Carolina).

From a pure linguistic point of view, the language of the Mingo people and the language of the Seneca people are practically identical, having only some dialectical differences between them (in fact, they are less different from eachother than American English is from Brittish English).
It started as an aid to myself in my attempts to organize the many features of this language, which is quite different from languages I have been familiar with earlier.
Through the close resemblance among the Northern-Iroquois languages, I hope to help also people who are interested in other Iroquoian languages (Seneca is practically identical to Mingo; Onondaga, Cayuga are mutually intelligible to a native speaker.
