Cebu Strait, sometimes called Bohol Strait, is a strait in the Philippines that separates the island provinces of Cebu and Bohol.
The Cebu Strait connects the western part of Bohol Sea with Camotes Sea, and is a major sea-lane connecting Cebu City on its northern end with port cities in the south such as Dumaguete City and Cagayan de Oro City.
Mactan Island, on the northern end of the same strait has the Mactan International Airport, one of the major airports in the country.

Over the past decade the status of knowledge of marine mammals in the Philippine archipelago has increased dramatically, expanding from an initial list of 12 known species to a current list of 25 confirmed species and two unconfirmed species.
The Tañon strait is a localized branch of the Cebu strait, which is heavily utilized by cetaceans.
We propose to attach radiotelemetry transponders to selected animals in the southern portion of the Tañon strait, and to follow them using global positioning systems (GPS) data for up to two weeks.
