  CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Cecilia
The oldest historical account of St. Cecilia is found in the "Martyrologium Hieronymianum"; from this it is evident that her feast was celebrated in the Roman Church in the fourth century.
De Rossi located the burial-place of Cecilia in the Catacomb of Callistus in a crypt immediately adjoining the crypt or chapel of the popes; an empty niche in one of the walls contained, probably, at one time the sarcophagus with the bones of the saint.
The oldest representations of St. Cecilia show her in the attitude usual for martyrs in the Christian art of the earlier centuries, either with the crown of martyrdom in her hand (e.g.

 St. Cecilia
The name of St. Cecilia has always been most illustrious in the church, and ever since the primitive ages is mentioned with distinction in the canon of the mass, and in the sacramentaries and calendars of the church.
Cecilia was a native of Rome, of a good family, and educated in the principles and perfect practice of the Christian religion.
Cecilia, from her assiduity in singing the divine praises (in which, according to her Acts, she often joined instrumental music with vocal), is regarded as patroness of church music.

 Amy Steedman: Saint Cecilia
As soon as Cecilia was old enough, it was arranged that she should marry a young Roman noble called Valerian, and this made her very unhappy.
When Valerian had taken Cecilia home and all the guests had gone, and they were left alone together, she told him that, though she was married, she belonged first of all to Christ, and that her guardian angel, who never left her, would guard and protect her from all danger.
And so at the end of three days God's angel came and led Cecilia home, and all that was left of her on earth was her fair body, lying like a tired child asleep, with hands clasped, gently resting now that her work on earth was done.

St. Cecilia - Patroness of Music
Valerian and Tiburtius are indeed authentic martyrs but have no connection with Cecilia; and the story of her virginal marriage has been plagiarized from a genuine episode in Victor of Vitis's History of the Vandal Persecution.
The romance, however, endowed with a martyr's cultus as St Cecilia a lady who had been hitherto but the owner and donor of the property bearing her name in the Trastevere.
The heiress, a virgin probably, though possibly a childless widow, came of a noble family, the Cecilii, and she endowed the church of Rome with the cemetery opened by Callistus where her tomb, long since empty, is the centra1 feature of a crypt adjoining the papal crypt.

 Feast: November 22
For over a thousand years St. Cecilia has been one of the most venerated martyrs of the early Church; she is among the seven martyrs named in the Canon of the Mass.
After the ceremony, when the guests had departed and she was alone with her husband, Cecilia made known her great desire to remain as she was, saying that she already had a lover, an angel of God, who was very jealous.
In the ninth century Pope Paschal I moved the remains of many martyrs from the catacombs to new churches within the city; the presumed relics of St. Cecilia, her husband, his brother, and the Roman officer Maximus, were all placed in the church of St. Cecilia.
