		At the end of the last ice age, the upper part of Cedar Creek began as an "ice-marginal" channel at the western edge of the Erie Lobe of the glacial ice and formed a single stream with the Eel River in what is now Whitley County.
		The result of Cedar Creek's "piracy" was to increase the size of the Maumee River drainage system at the expense of that of the Wabash.
		Cedar Creek itself fell victim to stream piracy by Fish Creek to the northeast, which captured the Cedar's headwaters in what is now Steuben County to connect directly with the St. Joseph.

		The fact that the Indiana bat was not netted could mean that this area is too far north and out of their range or that we were just unsuccessful in finding them during this study.

		This was part of a general drainage reversal that occurred in northeastern Indiana as the Maumee River opened and captured drainage that was previously part of the watershed of the Wabash.
		The flow reversal in lower Cedar Creek was probably accelerated by the downcutting of the St. Joseph River, which increased the velocity of its tributaries, causing them to erode toward their headwaters (headward erosion).
		The portion of Cedar Creek that flows through it, from river mile 13.7 to the creek's confluence with the St. Joseph, is officially designated as an "Outstanding State Resource Water" and is one of four streams in Indiana's Natural, Scenic and Recreational Rivers system.

		The 1864 Plat of Sec 28 in Cedarville, shows that Clarence Kryder's father, Harrison W. Kryder, married (in 1860) to Mary Ann Treace, a Princess of full Indian heritage, occupied the parcel of land (left)on the confluence of the St. Joseph's Branch of the Maumee River and Cedar Creek.
		The modern Plat of Sec 28 in Cedar Creek Township, shows that the course of the River itself has been altered for construction of Slentz Grainary, which borders a subdivision, Leo-Cedarville reservoir and Metea park.
