 VH1.com : Movies : Person : Cedric Hardwicke : Biography
After making his first film The Dreyfus Case in 1931, Hardwicke worked with distinction in both British and American films, though his earliest attempts at becoming a Broadway favorite were disappointments.
Knighted for his acting in 1934, Hardwicke's Hollywood career ran the gamut from prestige items like Wilson (1944), in which he played Henry Cabot Lodge, to low-budget gangster epics like Baby Face Nelson (1957), where he brought a certain degree of tattered dignity to the role of a drunken gangland doctor.
As proficient at directing as he was at acting, Hardwicke unfortunately was less successful as a businessman.

The latest cinematic Frankenstein scion, brain surgeon Ludwig (Cedric Hardwicke), wants to dissect the lumbering creature for good until the ghost of his father convinces him to save the monster by giving it a new, "good" brain.
Actually, this 1942 film is more "The Son of Frankenstein II" because the Dr. Frankenstein of this one is Ludwig von Frankenstein (Cedric Hardwicke of the 1939 version of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"), another son of the original Dr. Frankenstein.
Ludwig (Sir Cedric Hardwicke), a respected mental health doctor, is none too happy to see Ygor or to deal with the creature he believed had finally been killed, yet rather than destroy the monster, he decides to give him a new brain.

Cedric Hardwicke adds weight and style to the Nazi side, while Peter Lorre portrays an agent of the Japanese (!)--amazing to say, he looks quite the part, but he sounds for all the world just like the child-killer he played in M.
Enter the Nazis, headed by head goose-stepper Sir Cedric Hardwicke, and Peter Lorre, an old school Japanese baron who seek to acquire this formula and use it for the usual and universally known axis intentions.
Of course the grandson escapes from their torturous clutches and becomes an undercover agant for the allies, an invisible one, who infiltrates Germany and proceeds to play a bunch of practical jokes on inept Nazi officers as a prelude to intercepting the Nazi's "secret" plans for an attempted invasion of America.
