The new wave of English Ceilidh bands use a mix of traditional and recent tunes and variety of styles; there's as much Rock, Jazz and Roots as there is Folk.
In ceilidh, whether it is the traditional form from the North East of England or the more cosmopolitan Southern English Ceilidh, you very seldom do a plain walk.
An additional complication is that a Ceilidh in its original meaning is more of a party or gathering with dance only a being a part, dance events seem to be 'Ceilidh Dances' in Scotland....

Ceilidhs in those days were organised mainly for folk song club attendees.
The Ceilidhs commenced on the first Saturday of the month in December 1972 and these ran concurrently with the Herga Ceilidhs at the Whittington in Pinner on the first Friday of the month.
Haddenham went from strength to strength, was the only Ceilidh at the time and on various occasions we had well over 300 people crammed into the Village Hall current attendances are between 120-150.

SEVERAL hundred anti-G8 protesters staged a sit down demonstration in the heart of Scotland's largest city yesterday, causing severe traffic disruption as they cut off one of the main routes into Glasgow.
Activists marched on to George V Bridge at 2pm to begin what was billed as the "Boogie on the Bridge" or "Ceilidh on the Clyde" protest organised by the anarchist group, Dissent, in opposition to the extension of the city's M74 motorway and climate change.
Two rows of uniformed police officers quickly blocked off each end of the bridge, corralling the protesters in one large group, while mounted officers and riot police remained on standby.
