A film that purports to damn America's star-obsessed culture was welcomed by a paparazzi battalion, Leo-crazed girls, and fawning urban aesthetes.
Celebrity is Woody Allen’s twenty-ninth feature film, his sixth film to be shot in fl and white, and his seventh film not to star himself as the protagonist.
Twice during the film, she bumps into Lee, and the scenes are meant to contrast the progress each has made in their pursuit of fame.

Aquarian Concepts Community Film Review: Celebrity   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Celebrity is a film written and directed by Woody Allen, starring Kenneth Branagh (doing his best imitation of Woody Allen) and a "host of celebrities".
The characters in the film and the relationships they pursued never moved beyond the physical and emotional levels; there was no exploration at all of the higher moral and spiritual levels.
The film also showed how so many in the "sophisticated New York" scene are totally self-absorbed, seeing others as potential career advancing contacts or as "human Band-Aids" to quick-fix physical and emotional neediness.

Review: Celebrity   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Woody Allen's 1998 feature entry, Celebrity, is arguably his weakest film in half a decade, failing to reach the level of entertaining mediocrity attained by such middle-of-the-road features as Mighty Aphrodite and Deconstructing Harry, and falling far short of the mark established by Everyone Says I Love You and Bullets Over Broadway.
Celebrity is basically about Lee's attempts to get his life together, decide what he wants to do when he grows up, and determine who he wants to spend his waning years with (your basic mid-life crisis).
Celebrity is by turns funny, intriguing, and boring, but, even at its best, it's never brilliant or compelling.

In Celebrity, Allen anticipates possible criticism with a line about "pretentious filmmakers who shoot everything in fl and white." "Celebrity," Allen's new fl-and-white essay on the lures and traps of fame (with nods to his own "Stardust Memories" and Fellini's "La Dolce Vita") isn't likely to provoke a major revision of that critical consensus.

Simon, whose story is at the center of "Celebrity," is a womanizer recently divorced from Robin, played by the always-reliable Judy Davis with the right mixture of rage and hurt.
