I also have no idea how accurate it is, though one test I did in Celestia was corroborated with external data (finding the next time when Mars will be at its closest point to Earth; turns out it's this August, 2003, and Mars will be the closest it has been in more than 70000 years).

Celestia v1.5.0 (or later) makes possible the use of textures which are not a power-of-two on a side.
Surface textures to be used for spherical objects in Celestia must be simple cylindrical projections with 0 degrees of longitude in the center and 180 degrees of longitude at the sides.
Celestia (actually your graphics card) stretches them to the appropriate size to be projected on the associated part of the globe.

Celestia is arguably the greatest program for Mac OS X, at least for science-lovers.
First, Celestia's homepage does not give the most current version of Celestia for Mac OS X -- only version 1.3.1 is listed, when in fact version 1.3.2 is already available on their SourceForge files page.
I have been able to install the latest (X11, gnome or KDE) Celestia with fink with no problem, with support for everything and it seems to go as fast as the OSX one (that is, on my TiBook/400, slow).

Celestia is a wonderful GPL'ed 3d space simulator by Chris Laurel that can be found at shatters.net.
This is an extended verison of Celestia with extra commands gathered from the patches others on the Celestia forums to toggle things like orbits for each type of body and nebula labels and some additions by me to the Windows GUI to have checkboxes for those toggles.
This is the version of Celestia that shows extra information and can reload files.
