The Celestica deal is the first step in what Cabletron officials yesterday called Project Ignition, designed to reduce expenses, lower the cost of its products and increase cash reserves and revenue.
Representatives of Celestica, an electronics manufacturer with facilities around the world, will meet with affected Cabletron employees today, who were notified yesterday their jobs will be transferred out of Rochester to Celestica's new facility at Pease International Tradeport when it is complete, according to Orzechowski.
"Celestica is a very large company, and we can leverage their facilities and their purchasing abilities to lower prices for our customers," he said, adding that the deal will leave Cabletron better able to focus on other areas of its operations.
