Kelly's Heroes reunited Clint Eastwood with his Where Eagles Dare director Brian G Hutton, then added The Dirty Dozen star Telly Savalas in MGM's quest to turn WWII movie celluloid into box office gold three times running.
On the DVD: Kelly's Heroes is presented on disc in a 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer which is immaculate and taken from a virtually perfect master.
The heroes are not Kelly's, they actually belong to Big Joe (Telly Savalas)- well actually to Maitland, their absentee Capt. - and they are not heroes.

Varied Celluloid > Reviews > Just Heroes
The Review: Just Heroes is probably the most obscure and forgotten of John Woo's Hong Kong work (excluding Heroes Shed No Tears because of the lack of cops and robbers), you can probably subscribe to one of two theories on why this seems to be.
The first thing that races to my mind when I say violence as entertainment is one shot in Just Heroes where a nameless thug is shot in the back during one of the large gun battles, his blood flies everywhere, including splashing the camera with blotches of red.
Yet all action and no brains can only be fun if a film is campy, thankfully Just Heroes takes a very solid approach to getting a story across.

Varied Celluloid > Reviews > Heroes Shed No Tears
There is NO 'The Killer'-type bullet ballets or style, there is some double gunning but its nothing like anything we saw out of a better tomorrow.
I still found this enjoyable and it’s a violent good time for fans of mindlessness and films that require no thought, everything was bad but I still found something to like about it.
Furthermore this is for veteran Woo fans who want to explore the Heroic Bloodshed roots and look where John Woo got his Techniques and style from.

Ishii takes the existential dread of Kitano's films (and I'm thinking specifically of Sonatine) but gives a force and a name to what may bring about the demise of our 'heroes'.
Ishii isn't restrained in the film, but there are things one would hope could be dealt with on a level deeper than symbolism.
Takashi Ishii who I have bragged about quite a bit thus far really makes a name for himself with this film.

The Kinks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1972 the group released Everybody's in Showbiz, a double record set consisting of one album of studio tracks (most prominently the excellent ballad "Celluloid Heroes", and the catchy "Supersonic Rocket Ship", their last UK Top 20 hit for over a decade) and another of live material.
It signalled the beginning of Davies' overt fascination with theatrical concept albums and elaborate stage shows (facilitated in part by the staginess of the contemporary Glam Rock trend) that would dominate their career into 1975-1976.
The album was a commercial and critical disappointment in the U.K., although it sold better in the U.S. This pattern would continue to play out over the subsequent decade, with the Kinks' popularity and sales steadily increasing in the US, and remaining stagnant in the UK.

Enter the dragon - THE DAILY BRUIN ONLINE
The world of the wu xia film is not necessarily filled with kung fu boxers, but is instead comprised of swordsmen and swordswomen — heroes and villains who wield mystic weapons and who dance deadly, sword-swinging ballets through the landscapes of mythical China.
These literature-rooted elements of the wu xia were ready to be spread across the celluloid.
Lim said that it was during the late '60s and early '70s that the wu xia films fell out of popularity in favor of the newer, more visceral, more masculine kung fu films in which bare-chested men careened, their muscles unabashedly flexed, onto the Chinese screen.

Nimrod - See How It Runs
David Williamson’s Celluloid Heroes opened the Nimrod’s second decade and in its self-absorption and inability to sustain a narrative drive Meyrick suggests a reflection and prognostication of the Nimrod’s troubles.
The Nimrod and the APG were founded by a generation of clever young guns in conscious opposition to the mainstream and Meyrick begins his history by examining the division between the generations and in their theatrical and wider cultural loyalties.
Nimrod grew from Sydney University connections, principally between Ken Horler and John Bell and the availability of a cheap space, an old stable in Nimrod Street, Kings Cross, its first home.

The show they put on that night, highlighted by a swooning version of "Celluloid Heroes" and the introduction of the not-yet-released single "Come Dancing," was probably still the best concert I've ever been to, and in subsequent years I've seen many (including The Trashmen and Buddy Guy just yesterday, fooking deadly).
New music was impossible to come by, but one commodity that was available was Creem Magazine, which I regularly pilfered from the local five and dime (more punk than I knew was I).
Eventually, I found a copy of the Kinks' original 1967 "Greatest Hits" package (what the hell is "Wait til the Summer Comes Along" doing there?), and as a measure of my great devotion to my best friend at the time, I gave him the LP for his birthday.

Yes, Sergeants Jan Kubis and Jozef Gabcik were real men, genuine patriots, authentic heroes who killed that utter bastard Nazi thug Reinhard Heydrich.
'Operation Daybreak' is but a small celluloid monument to the heroism of Jan Kubis and Jozef Gabcik and their loyal cohorts in the Czechoslovak resistance, and it's likely to remain the only cinematic tribute to their fortitude and devotion.
Moreover, the daring and selflessness of Gabcik's and Kubis's attack on Heydrich inspired and steeled resistance to the Nazis not only in Czechoslovakia, but in other countries benighted by the cruel stain of Nazi occupation.
