Battle metal   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
Battle metal is a sub-genre of Black metal music drawing on themes of Middle Ages or fantasy battle and fighting, and in the opinion of some would be suitable for the soundtrack for a RPG fantasy game.
Battle metal bands like Summoning were thought to be possible contributors to the soundtrack of the Lord of the Rings films, but this was mainly because of the Tolkien-related content of their music and they did not appear on the soundtrack.
Most bands who play battle metal also contribute to other sub-genres of fl metal: for instance, Bathory are prominent in the Viking metal sub-genre, and Waylander (band) are pioneers of three sub-genres of fl metal: this one, folk metal and Celtic Metal.

Celtic Frost had already combined operatic female vocals and death grunts in 1987 on their third album Into The Pandemonium.
In general, Gothic metal lyrics focus on a variety of subjects: religion and God, heaven and hell, romance, (gothic) horror, depression, bereavement, emptiness, and death.

 Ancient Celtic Warfare
Even though Celtic culture developed probably some centuries earlier, the oldest material I’ll be discussing dates to the beginning of the 5th century BC in central Europe.
By the end of the 1st century BC, all the Celtic lands but the British Isles were conquered either by the Romans or had become germanised, either by a similar cultural exchange (like that when they became Celtic) or by force of arms.
In battles, the Celts also made use of what has been dubbed "psychological warfare." Before actually engaging the enemy, they are said to having made a horrible noise by clashing their weapons against their shields, crying and singing, with horns (carnyx) being blown and maybe drums being beaten.

Celtic languages are the languages spoken by the ancient Celts and their modern descendants, the Gaels, the Welsh, and the Bretons.
They were spoken across western Europe during the 1st millennium BC, but are now limited to a few enclaves in the British Isles and on the peninsula of Brittany in France.
Note that the Breton is not Gaulish, but closely related to Cornish and is thus a member of Insular Celtic.

Get Ready to ROCK! Interview with Agamoth of black extreme metal band Abgott
In the beginning I had to face a lot of distrust from the metal people around, due to the fact that the band was based in Italy, because of the drastic change from death to fl, but I am a die hard mind and I did not care and most importantly, I did not surrender.
Agamoth: Well, I grew up with heavy metal, my diet was based on Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, this is one of the main reasons why the UK has always been my ‘idyllic’ place to live.
Agamoth: Abgott plays Black Metal and the only adjective I can add to it is “unconventional”, just to highlight the fact that the listener are not going to hear the “typical extreme Black Metal” album.

 Graveland - Black Metal
Their unification of simple fl metal themes with classical structural principles have enabled this band to hold ground with their long and wandering compositions, dreamlike in their simple melody and poetic recombination.
Similarly vocals emulate the Bathory style in that era, as do patterns of cadence emerging in riff and muscular strumming that is strangely precise for a band this early in its growth, but the first four tracks on this release are unusually feral yet ambitiously majestic in their capture of atmosphere and mood.
Vocals are shouted with the rough timbre of death or fl metal vocalization barely inflected in each pronunciation, and drumming is an outline of rock/punk high energy/low complexity styling.

Celtic Tattoos are not an easy design for the artist to work with, therefore, It is strongly recommended to anyone contemplating getting one to view the existing work of the artist and enquire as to his or her specific experience in designing Celtic tattoos.

"Battle Metal" is an amazing CD and any fan of Viking or Folk metal should DEFINATELY have this, the only thing(s) this CD is really missing would be a faster or melodic set of guitar riffs, although that varies on peoples tastes.
Bombastic keyboard metal deserves more adherents than this, but at least the few that we have are doing a good job of keeping the style alive.
