  Alaska Centennial Rose Garden History
This quiet ceremony inaugurated the formal opening of the Centennial Rose Garden, the northernmost municipal rose garden on the North American Continent in the spring of 1967, the year of the Alaska Purchase Centennial.
The garden, 85 by 110 feet long, is oriented with the entrances at the cardinal points of the compass.
During the Centennial Year, the official design was laid out in a field of blue and gold that covered the 50 by 50 foot area.

The garden is a herbaceous perennial and shrub border along the west and south side of historic Faurot Hall, the original administration building of the State Fruit Experiment Station listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The concept for the Centennial Garden flower border is to reflect the early 1900’s by using plants from the period.
