Centennial Park (Nashville) is a large urban park located approximately two miles (three km) west of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, across West End Avenue (U.S. Highway 70S) from the campus of Vanderbilt University and adjacent to the headquarters campus of the Hospital Corporation of America.
The Parthenon replica, built largely out of plaster as a temporary exhibit building (the Nashville pavilion of the Centennial Exposition) began to fall into disrepair and was proposed for demolition on several occasions, but public sentiment in favor of this symbol of Nashville as the "Athens of the South" precluded this.
Centennial Park is the site of the climactic scene in Robert Altman's Nashville, a picture beloved of many film critics.

Centennial Park's very existence was tied to streetcars — and not just for the public access to it they provided.
The park property had earlier been set aside for residential development until a 1902 deal was struck for a streetcar company to buy it and donate it to the city in return for various city concessions to the company.
The Parks Board's minutes show the early exhibit trolley was moved to the park's new children's playground in 1916 after a playground movement took hold and spread across the country.

This downtown park has jogging paths, grassy spots for picnics and a small lake for paddle boating.
Even when lots of people are in the park, it never feels crowded - there is a lot of landscaping that buffers you from others and offers small areas with a feeling of seclusion.
The park is kept very litter free by a great staff who blends in well - you hardly ever even notice them, although they are almost always weeding, cleaning up leaves, or litter, etc...
