The Minnesota Historical Society has the Sanborn base maps covering the central riverfront for 1885 and 1912 with updated versions for the 1885 atlases through 1890 and updated versions of the 1912 atlases for 1923 for the northwest end, through 1948-51 for the southwest end, and through 1941 for the east side of the riverfront.
The earliest detailed map of central Minneapolis is the original government land survey map dated 1853.

In 1857, the Minneapolis Bridge Company under the direction of Robert Jefferson built a wooden Howe truss bridge across the Mississippi River at the bend in the river near the University.

 The Minneapolis Teamster Strikes of 1934
Three successive strikes by Minneapolis truck drivers in 1934 resulted in the defeat of the Citizens Alliance, the dominant employer organization that had broken nearly every major strike in that city since 1916.
The strikes also established the industrial form of union organization through the medium of an American Federation of Labor (AFL) craft union and set the stage for the organization of over-the-road drivers throughout an eleven-state area, transforming the Teamsters into a million-plus member union.
The union appealed to the Central Labor Union for a general strike and the governor issued an ultimatum that he would stop all trucks by midnight, August 5, if there was no settlement.
