The Central Baptist Association is an association of churches located from South Carolina to Indiana, with most of the churches being in eastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia.
In 1956, some churches of the Eastern District Primitive Baptist Association separated and formed the Central Baptist Association.
They adopted the name Central Baptist "as an indication of our acceptance of the Holy Scriptures in their entirety, varying neither to the right or left" (Minutes, 1996, p.4).

 Elam Baptist Church - Church History
Historic Elam Baptist Church was constituted in 1808 largely through the interest and benevolence of ·Reverend Henry Hooten of the Church community.
Hooten was one of the founding fathers of the 0cmulgee Baptist Association in 1810, the fifth Baptist Association formed in Georgia, which years later went anti-missionary or primitive.
Likewise, Rev. Hooten was present at the organizational meeting of the Ebenezer ·Baptist Association in 1814, the sixth Baptist Association formed in Georgia.

During the summer of 1948, the Central Association director of missions, Rev. Herman Powell, brought two summer workers to the rural community of Mt. Pleasant, ten miles southwest of Watonga.
During 1949 and 1950, the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Mission built a concrete block building, ad it was dedicated in the spring of 1950.
The mission had a full range of classes and activities for all age groups and through its full program of work was able to reach the farm people of the area with a nearby house of worship.
