Bowling Green, Ohio State, St. Louis and Ohio University formed the conference in 1971 from the ashes of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association.
Illinois-Chicago joined the conference in 1982 and the CCHA reached an all-time high of 12 members, a plateau the conference did not stay at for long.

 Central States Collegiate Hockey League
Since returning to the Games in 2001 with players from the American Collegiate Hockey Association, Team USA had only won one game in the 2001 and 2003 tournaments combined.
The players are representing Eastern Michigan, Illinois(5), Iowa State(2), Michigan-Dearborn, and Ohio(3), along with the Head Coach (Chad Cassel of Illinois) and USA Hockey Adult Council Representative (Dr. Al Murdoch of Iowa State).

In 1989, the NCAA wisely promulgated Bylaw 12.2.3.2.4.1 (Limitation on Restoration of Eligibility), which was designed to prohibit "professional" ice hockey players in the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League (CMJHL) from participating with impunity in NCAA Division I ice hockey.
The CMJHL is a "professional" hockey league as properly defined by NCAA Bylaw 12.2.3.2.4 (Major Junior A Ice Hockey).
Parties interested in the continued success of collegiate wrestling should focus on taking the excitement of the national championships to other locations, regardless of whether the state supports a wrestling institution.
