For the 2005-06 season, Northeast Division clubs will host the Pacific Division and visit the Northwest; Atlantic Division clubs will host the Northwest and visit the Central; and Southeast Division clubs will host the Central and visit the Pacific.
That's going to be reconsidered next year but given the NHL's plan to take a break for the Turin Olympics it doesn't seem to make sense to make the season longer this year.
With the league's re-designed silver and black logo serving as a backdrop, commissioner Gary Bettman unveiled the NHL's "new look" which included a number of rule changes aimed at opening up the game and creating more offense.

During their twenty-six seasons in Minnesota, the North Stars twice won division titles (in 1981-82 and 1983-84) and twice reached the final round of the playoffs (in 1980-81 and 1990-91), but never won a Stanley Cup, symbol of the NHL championship.
In their first season in Dallas under the guidance of coach and general manager Bob Gainey, the Stars finished third in the Central Division, though they fell to fifth the following season and to sixth, missing the playoffs, in 1995-96.
The Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL operated a minor-league team called the Dallas Blackhawks in the Central Hockey League from 1967 to 1982.

 NHL Realignment for 1998-99
With the Nashville Predators joining the NHL in 1998-99 and three more teams joining in the following two years, the league voted to expand from four divisions to six.
In the 2000-2001 season, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild will each join the Western Conference, with Columbus going to the Central Division and Minnesota to the Northwest.
Eight teams from each conference will still make the playoffs, with the three division winners being the top three seeds and the five next-best teams filling out the bracket according to record.

After spending 11 years at SCSU, Miller had a very short stint with Nashville of the Central Hockey League and then Louisville of the East Coast Hockey League.  He then caught on with the Avs where he joined former SCSU trainer Pat Karns.

In May 1926, when Major Frederic McLaughlin became the owner of the new NHL franchise in Chicago, he named the team after his WWI battalion in the 86th Division - also known as the Blackhawk Division.
When the structure was changed again in 1993-94 Chicago were placed in the Central Division of the Western Conference.
The team jersey was designed with the Indian head encircled with Blackhawks at the top and Chicago at the bottom - because the k and the h didn't quite meet, the sportswriters reported the team name as Black Hawks.

After 26 games and 11 points with the Panthers, Igor was traded back to the Detroit Red Wings on December 28 for defenceman Yan Golubovsky.After scoring 11 points in his first 26 games, he scored 29 points in 39 games with the Red Wings as his new team won the Central Division title.
While Igor Larionov was drafted 214th overall in the 1985 Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks, it was not until October 5, 1989 that he made his NHL debut after finally being given permission to leave the Soviet Union.
In 1991-92, Igor scored 65 points in 72 games and pushed his team to a 31-point improvement to win the Smythe Division regular season title.
