 Indiainfo.com - News - India - Plan for central anti-crime agency rejected
New Delhi: Overwhelming opposition from states and union territories has forced the government to drop its proposal to create a "central enforcement agency" -- a sort of national crime fighter that would have the power to override the state police forces where terrorism was involved.
They contended that any Central intervention in a law and order situation should only be made with the consent and co-operation of the concerned state government.
The agency can, however, come into the picture only after there is a specific request from a state government.
