Central Railway is a Franco-British project that will extend the benefits of the Channel Tunnel beyond the South East of England to the rest of the British Isles.
Central Railway will provide a much more direct, efficient and inexpensive transport between the UK and the regions than any currently in existence.

 Great Central Railway
In 1893, the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway received the Royal Assent for the construction of the new mainline from Annesley, 12 miles north of Nottingham, to London Marylebone.

 Tennessee Central Railway
First chartered in 1886 as the Nashville and Knoxville Railroad, the Tennessee Central Railway was conceived with the intent to connect two of Tennessee's four major cities: Nashville and Knoxville.

This image from the Library of Congress is titled The Hemlock Limited, bound for the woods, Harbor Springs, Mich. It was taken between 1900 and 1910.
Operations on the Harbor Springs Railway ended in 1911, and the railroad was dismantled in 1912.

 Templecombe Junction Railway
The Templecombe Junction Railway (TJR) was the link line which connected together the separate lines of the London and South Western Railway (LandSWR) and Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway (SandDJR) at Templecombe railway station in Somerset.
The first railway station at Templecombe was opened in 1860 by the Salisbury and Yeovil Railway (SandYR), when their single-track line from Salisbury to Gillingham was extended westward to Yeovil.
When the Dorset Central Railway (DCR) was extended northwards from Blandford to meet with the eastwards extension of the Somerset Central Railway (SCR) near Cole their single line passed under the SandYR just to the east of Templecombe station.

Although covering much that is outside the original intention of showing the Great Central Railway around Leicester, these photographs taken on a journey on 17th April 1969 along the full extent of the line then open have been included since they will be of interest to those who know the stations today.
