PALU, Central Sulawesi (Antara): The number of forest concession (HPH) holders operating in Central Sulawesi province has dropped to only 15, with a total area covering 910,600 hectares, an official said on Sunday.
Head of the Central Sulawesi forestry office Idris Makkanyuma said that the number of existing HPH holders dropped substantially from at least 25, with total concessions covering more than one million hectares five years ago.
Idris explained the drop in the number of HPH holders in the province was caused mainly by the central government's policy of controlling logging activities, and also a drop in the supply ofready-to-fell trees.
