 SKYLINE Technologies -- News Update (23 May 2005 )
The redevelopment of the Wan Chai shoreline is back in the public eye with the latest proposal presented by the government's harborfront advisory body.
Last January, the government lost its case of the Wan Chai North reclamation plan - which it said was vital for the Central-Wan Chai bypass to materialize - at the Court of Final Appeal.
Leung Kong-yui, who chaired the Wan Chai review subcommittee under the advisory group, said the latest consultation was the first of several stages and, at this point, members were not concerned with whether reclamation would go ahead or how much it would cost.

 SKYLINE Technologies -- News Update (10 March 2006 )
Reclamation is essential to the construction of the Central-Wan Chai bypass, a government advisory body tasked to review the development project heard Thursday.
Shallow "cut and cover" tunnels would be required to link the bypass trunk road to a proposed tunnel on the west and the Island Eastern Corridor on the east.
The consultants were commissioned in December to look at all possible options for the bypass, including flyover and tunnel, in accordance with the Court of Final Appeal's ruling in 2004 that any proposed reclamation has to meet an "overriding need" test.

The Central-Wan Chai Bypass is the final and most vital road transport link missing on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island.
It is needed to divert through traffic away from the Central business district, to cater for anticipated traffic growth beyond 2006 and to alleviate congestion on existing road networks (already operating at capacity) that feed into Central from the east and west.
If the Bypass is not built, congestion along the Connaught Road Central/Harbour Road/Gloucester Road Corridor will spill over into the neighbouring roads in Central and Wan Chai, eventually creating gridlock.
