By the end of 1865, the South Western Railroad Company of Georgia had constructed a railroad bridge across the Chattahoochee to Eufaula, and by the time the Vicksburg and Brunswick Depot was built in 1872, three rail lines connected the city with other parts of Alabama and Georgia.
Chartered in 1867, the Vicksburg and Brunswick built the rail line from Eufaula to Clayton, and by 1888 the trains were running as far as Ozark.
