  Charles Darwin University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NTU was founded in January 1989 from the Darwin Institute of Technology (founded 1974) and the University College of the Northern Territory (1987).
Centralian College was founded in 1993 from Sadadeen Senior Secondary College and the Alice Springs College of TAFE.
On 21 August 2003, the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly passed the Charles Darwin University Bill, merging Alice Springs' Centralian College with the university to form Charles Darwin University from 1 January 2004.

The focus of this project will be to enable the members of the newly formed management group to develop their skills as a group and individually to meet the new challenges facing Centralian College in meeting the requirements of implementing the NTF in our training environment.
Centralian College has special challenges in delivering training throughout the NT in major centres and increasingly in remote areas.
Change Management for this project is a deliberate use of strategies to manage change within Centralian College, to suit the remoteness and isolation of the NT from the rest of the Continent.

The college has a much wider range of courses than is offered here but it's difficult to maintain such a wide range over such a large area, so there's only really a small group of courses offered in the Barkly region.
The college is in a state of change at the moment, it's going to become independent of the N.T. Public Service next year and will be the first independent Aboriginal-run college in the country.
Centralian College is based in Alice Springs but I run a unit from Tennant Creek.

Centralian College has embarked on a project that will not only provide a better learning environment for its clientele but removed some of the doubt regarding who pays.

In the mid-eighties 13 IAD students, enrolled in the then South Australian College of Advanced Education, SACAE's Associate Diploma in Aboriginal Studies, were moved to Centralian College, because of lack of space and resources at IAD.
After three years on the campus, SACAE hierarchy concluded that the college was a "dead end location" for their IAD students and recommended a relocation back to IAD, offering to make more resources available out of their own budget.
Centralian College Year 12 drama students have found in one of their texts, Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle, themes with strong local resonance.

One of the benefits of the amalgamation of the Alice Springs College of TAFE with the Sadadeen Secondary College to form Centralian College was that students can actually study high school subjects at the same time as they are studying TAFE subjects.
The college really has much to be proud of in respect of her outstanding achievements on multiple pathways in lifelong education.
This year, Centralian College at the Sadadeen campus will formally introduce tutorial groups as a means of providing all students with set study times during which professional help is available.

The predecessor institution, NTU, was founded in January 1989 from the Darwin Institute of Technology (founded 1974) and the University College of the Northern Territory (1987).
The primary campuses are located in the Darwin suburbs of Casuarina and Palmerston, in addition to Mataranka Station north of Katherine.
