Centropomidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Centropomidae are a family of freshwater and marine fishes in order Perciformes, commonly known as snooks.
Prior to 2004, three other genera were placed in Centropomidae in subfamily Latinae, which has since been raised to the family level and renamed Latidae because a cladistic analysis showed the old Centropomidae to be paraphyletic.
Dating from the upper Cretaceous, the centropomids are of typical percoid shape, distinguished by having two-part dorsal fins and, frequently, a concave shape to the head.

SYMPOSIUM ON RIVER AND FLOODPLAIN FISHERIES IN AFRICA/SYMPOSIUM SUR LA PECHE EN RIVIERES ET EN PLAINES D'INONDATION EN ...
The Centropomidae, represented by Lates niloticus (Linn), and the Bagridae, were the most predominant fish families by weight in the river near the dam; while the Mormyridae and the Mochocidae, which were abundant in the preimpounded River Niger near Kainji, became less important.
Centropomidae, represented solely by Lates niloticus (Linn) in the River Niger, dominated the catches in terms of its contribution by weight while the Bagridae with eight species in four genera was predominant in terms of numbers.
A major change in the composition of the fish families was observed with the Centropomidae and Bagridae dominating the commercial catches whereas in the preimpounded river the Mormyridae, Mochochidae and Characidae were the dominant families.

Molecular phylogenetics and ecological diversification of the transisthmian fish genus Centropomus (Perciformes: Centropomidae).
Phylogenetic relationships among the 12 recognized fish species in the New World genus Centropomus (Pisces, Centropomidae) were analyzed using allozyme electrophoresis and 618 bp of the mitochondrial DNA 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene.
Analysis of the three sets of transisthmian geminate taxa in Centropomus indicated that two of the pairs were probably formed during the Pliocene rise of the isthmus while the third pair diverged several million years earlier

Latidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Latidae are a family of perch-like fishes found in Africa and the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
The family, previously classified subfamily Latinae in family Centropomidae, was raised to family status in 2004 after a cladistic analysis showed the original Centropomidae was paraphyletic.
Many species in this family are important food fishes and some have been introduced outside their native ranges to provide fishing stocks.

Comparative study of endocrine cells in the principal pancreatic islets of two teleosts, Silurus asotus (Siluridae) and Siniperca scherzeri (Centropomidae).
The regional distribution and relative frequency of some endocrine cells in the principal pancreatic islets of two teleosts, Silurus asotus Linne (Siluridae) and Siniperca scherzeri Steindachner (Centropomidae), which have similar feeding habits, were observed using specific antisera against insulin, glucagon, somatostatin and bovine pancreatic polypeptide (bovine PP) using the peroxidase antiperoxidase (PAP) method.
Spherical to spindle shaped cells were demonstrated in the principal pancreatic islets in both species of teleost fishes.

The present work had the aim to study the parasitism in fishes of the families Mugilidae, Centropomidae and Gerreidae occurring in the Santa Cruz Channel (7o 34’00’’- 7o 55’16’’S e 34o 48’48’’- 34o 52’48’’W) and at Suape area (8o 15’00’’- 8o 15’00’’S e 34o 55’00’’- 35o 05’00’’W).
In these areas, three fishes families are important: Mugilidae with the species Mugil curema, M. liza and M. trichodon; Centropomidae with the species Centropomus undecimalis and C. parallelus, Gerreidae with the species Eugerres brasilianus, Diapterus auratus and Eucinostomus gula.
The Centropomidae family counted to 30% of the infested samples with Centropomus undecimalis and C. parallelus parasited by two copepods species, an specific (L. gisleri) and other no specific (C. praetextus).

 RPOSnook
An excellent table fish with delicate white, flaky meat, it is a member of the Centropomidae family, which also includes the 200 lbs.
At present, the family Centropomidae comprises the genus Centropomus (American tropics and subtropics), Lates, inlcude the large Nile Perch (Africa) and Psammopera (Indo Pacific) Until recently the diminutive glass fish that are a favorite of aquarium hobbyists (Chanda Lala) were included in the Centropomidae but are now placed in their own family.
The species of Centropomus form a compact homogeneous group very distinct from their relatives on the other side of the world.
