  Preface from Centuries of Darkness
Everything we found confirmed our suspicion that the original spanner in the works was the Egyptian time-scale, and that the 'centuries of darkness' inserted into the histories of so many areas between 1200 and 700 BC were largely illusory.
At the turn of the century the classical scholar Cecil Torr and Egyptologist Jens Lieblein stood firm against the newly established 'high' Egyptian chronology, but their arguments for a lower dating fell on stony ground.
Involving a reduction of Egyptian dates by a full eight centuries at one point, it produced a rash of new problems far more severe than those it hoped to solve.

The nearest parallel, in the English literature of the time, to the Sancta Sophia of Baker is the Centuries of Meditations of Thomas Traherne; 1 yet Traherne, above all things, is an Anglican.
He set himself to supply a private friend (as it appears) with thoughts for divine contemplation, in his Centuries of Meditations, a book which had the strange fortune to remain in manuscript for nearly two hundred and fifty years.
He even suggests the style of the poet of two centuries later who brought into his prose the ardour of his poetry, Algernon Charles Swinburne.

Century - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A century is one hundred of something, usually one hundred consecutive years, or 100 runs in cricket, or a bicycle ride of 100 miles in a day.
The English word century also renders the meanings of the Latin word centuria which was (1) a tactical unit in the Roman legion; although originally 100 soldiers, it was more commonly 60-80 soldiers, commanded by a centurion.
In all dating systems, centuries are essentially numbered ordinally, as time is a purely relative notion (its physical existence, though indispensable for our understanding of reality, still remains unproven in theory).

NGA - Dutch and Flemish Painting 16th-17th centuries
Mor's reputation was eclipsed in the seventeenth century by that of Anthony van Dyck, who eventually became court painter to Charles I of England.
The most sought-after Flemish painter of the seventeenth century was Van Dyck's teacher, the scholar, linguist, and diplomat Peter Paul Rubens, who was besieged with commissions from the nobility and religious orders of Europe for portraits, altarpieces, mythological scenes, and allegories.
The emergence of the Dutch school of painting in the early seventeenth century is one of the most remarkable phenomena in the history of the visual arts.

Atom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dalton and Avogadro rediscovered the works of Democritus and Leucippus and suggested in the 19th century that matter was made up of atoms, but they knew nothing of their structure.
Because their energy could only change by fixed quantities, they couldn't move closer to or farther from the nucleus in spirals; they could only make quantum leaps from one circle to the next.
The study of atoms was done by largely indirect means through the 19th century and early 20th century.

These numbers are not exact, because some riders changed routes midstream, but the sign-in sheets show 112 riders for the century, 111 for the metric, and 38 for the double metric century.

Musical Forms - Troubadours and Trouvères
The earliest lives of the troubadours are the vidas, compiled in the 13th and 14th centuries, which have lent a romantic air to the troubadour; this is only gradually being dispelled, to reveal a well-educated and highly sophisticated verse-technician, whose music and poetry combined in the service of the courtly ideal of love.
Troubadours were often of high social standing (like Guillaume IX of Aquitaine, generally described as the first of the troubadours) from the nobility, but they could come from any social background as long as they conformed to courtly ideals and could appreciate and acquire the refinement that went with courtly love.
In both traditions the relationship between text and music remained flexible until the late 13th century; a melody for a poem could be replaced, or homage to an admired poem and melody could be paid by imitating the poem's structure while retaining the original melody (resulting in numerous contrafacta).

Nostradamus was seen to have a great intellect at an early age, his grandfather taught him the basics of Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Mathematics and Astrology; he was, as his education progressed, a firm believer that the Earth was round and circled the sun a full century before Galileo was persecuted for the same beliefs.
With such an amazing intellect, it was not surprising that he studied medicine at Montpellier and had obtained a bachelor's degree by the age of 22 and was, soon after, granted a licence to practice.
