  Cerro de la Silla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cerro de la Silla, named for its distinctive saddle-shaped profile when viewed from the west, is a famous symbol of the landscape of the state of Nuevo León, Mexico.
The mountain has four peaks: Pico Antena, Pico Norte, Pico Sur and Pico la Virgen; Pico Norte is the highest at 1820 m (5970 ft) while Pico la Virgen is the lowest at 1750 m (5740 ft).
Set aside as a Natural Monument by the government of Mexico in 1991, the hill is a popular recreational area and is often climbed by hikers who take a 2.5 km (1.6 mi) trail to reach the top.

In the center of the city is the Gran Plaza, different from the other Mexican places thanks to its architectural and decorative diversity (you can find there sculptures of various styles and times, ultramodern buildings who contrast with " the traditional "cathedral and all this is decorated gardens).
Monterrey is surrounded by significant mountains such as Cerro de la Silla, symbol of the city.
This city, founded in 1596 by Diego de Montemayor, fell into a very great lethargy, until the North-American invasion of the city in 1846 and finally to be released in 1848 thanks to the Treaty of Guadalupe.

The Monterrey metropolitan area which, in addition to Monterrey itself, consists of the cities San Nicolas de los Garza, Santa Catarina, Garza Garcia, Guadalupe, Escobedo and Apodaca, is home to approximately 2.8 million of the 3.8 million that live in the state of Nuevo Leon.
To the southeast, the Cerro de la Silla mountain, Monterrey's most well-known landmark, rises to an elevation of 5971 feet, about 4200 feet above Monterrey.
To the west, the Cerro Las Mitras mountain towers at 6800 feet above sea level, nearly a mile higher than Monterrey and the surrounding area.

 About Cerro de la Silla - Monterrey
Since Monterrey itself is at 1837 feet above sea level, the Cerro de la Silla towers almost a mile above the city.
While Saddleback Mountain looks like a saddle when viewed from the west or northwest--as in the larger picture at the top of the page--a change in perspective definitely changes the appearance of the mountain.

About 100 km north of Cerro Tololo (within sight when the lighting is just right), atop Cerro La Silla, are the facilities of ESO, which can nearly match telescope for telescope the facilities operated by both Kitt Peak and Cerro Tololo.
La Silla is also home to the Swedish-ESO Submiillimeter Telescope (SEST), a high-accuracy 15-meter dish which has proven especially valuable in mapping molecular gas in the Magellanic Clouds as well as the southern Galactic plane.
It is shown here while still under construction (just after that embarrassing incident involving software limits, the Sun near zenith, and a melted secondary reflector), and against a fog bank after coming into operation a year later.

It`s located on the eastern side of the city and it was declared a Natinal Park in the early nineties.
It has four peaks, wich are (from north to south): - La Antena (Canal 6), 1790m.
The first two are the most visited, the first one being the easiest to climb since there`s a 4x4 road leading to the T.V. antenna on the top.

Two teams from The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture recently competed in the Luis Barragán Community Project Competition in Monterrey, México.
The project, sponsored by the Luis Barragán Chair of the ITESM Campus Monterrey and the County of Guadalupe, Nuevo Léon, includes the design of multiple infrastructures which meaningfully connect the city of Monterrey, located in the Nuevo Léon province of México, to the "Cerro de Silla," a protected natural area adjacent to the city.
