Cerros - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cerros is a Mayan temple dating from the late formative period (330BC-1AD), located on a peninsula overlooking Chetumal Bay in Belize.
Aside from fishing, the people of Cerros were also able to construct massive canal systems, the largest of which encompasses 80 acres of the site.
Although smaller than sites such as Tikal and lacking in the beauty of Palenque, Cerros is still an important site and with items such as Temple 1, helps provides a template for interpreting many later Mayan sites.

Cerros Colorados Complex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cerros Colorados Complex is a group of dams and hydroelectricity generation facilities on the lower valley of the Neuquén River, in the Argentine province of Neuquén (northwestern Patagonia, Comahue region).
In 1993 it was privatized by a concession grant to Hidroeléctrica Cerros Colorados S.A. In 2000, Duke Energy acquired Cerros Colorados and the Alto Valle thermal power plant.
Cerros Colorados is itself part of a larger engineering scheme, commonly known as the El Chocón-Cerros Colorados Complex, which includes the dam and hydroelectric plant of El Chocón located upstream, on the Limay River.

Cerros de Tocorpuri (or Volcán Tocorpuri) is a stratovolcano complex on the Chile-Bolivia border with a youthful-looking rhyolitic lava dome, Cerro la Torta, at its western foot.
Cerro la Torta has been considered to be of Holocene age due to its youthful morphology, but its age is not known precisely and Potassium-Argon dating indicates only that it is less than a million years old.
The circular, roughly 5 cu km Cerro la Torta was erupted from a central vent and is surrounded by a flat-topped surface with wrinkled flow ridges.

A number of "cerros de trincheras" ("entrenched mountains") of which John Roney has undertaken a survey, as well as the famous ruins of Casas Grandes (Paquime) near the modern town of the same name, were photographed.
The cerros de trincheras sites, some of which may date back thousands of years, are modified hills with what appear to be defensive earthworks and stone walls on their flanks and crests, though some of the features may be agricultural terracing.
Casas Grandes is a large late prehistoric ruin (circa 1050-1340 AD) that may have cultural or trade links to Chaco Canyon in the American Southwest, and has ancient roads similar to Chaco's leading from it to other sites in the area.

Ricardo Gallo's Los Cerros Testigos is, therefore, a strong reminder that great music is happening all over the world.
Here we have another example of what a fusion of different music with jazz really means: the creation of something new that no longer belongs to its original world (Colombia) and yet still maintains some of its recognizable characteristics (rhythms and folk song feel), while being truly jazz-like in its daring, unpredictability and spirit.
Los Cerros Testigos, a terrific record from beginning to end, will be on my short list for the best of 2006.
