Ceryneian Hind - Monstropedia - the largest encyclopedia about monsters
The capture of the hind was one of The Twelve Labours of Heracles.
In some versions, he captured the hind when it stopped to drink, rendering it lame by shooting it with an arrow that had not been poisoned with centaur/Lernaean Hydra blood, as most of his arrows were, in other versions he captured it when it was unable to run any further.
Artemis (to whom the Cerynian Hind was said to have been sacred, causing her to draw an arrow at Hercules, just like the constellation Sagittarius appears to be doing), is a key player in the myth discussing the origin of Scorpio and death of Orion, and so has an association with this area of sky.

The third task did not involve killing a beast, as it had already been established that Heracles could survive even the most fearsome opponents, so Eurystheus decided to make him capture the Cerynian Hind, a beautiful creature sacred to Artemis, the chaste goddess of the hunt and moon.
The hind possessed hooves of bronze and antlers of gold and it was said that it could outrun an arrow in flight.
Heracles pursued the hind for a year, when he awoke from sleep he could see it from the glint on its antlers; upon finally catching the animal (sometimes by shooting it with an arrow) he was confronted by Artemis who wanted to know what he was doing with it.

The naming of the ship, the "Golden Hind", of Sir Francis Drake is sometimes given a mythological origin, though Drake actually renamed his flagship, in mid-voyage, 1577, as a gesture to flatter his patron Sir Christopher Hatton, whose armorial bearings included the crest "a hind, or." In heraldry, a "hind" is a roe.
In 2004, a television dramatisation of the life of Hercules in the manner of Xena, Warrior Princess, represented centaur-like Hinds with the upper bodies of women that are shown to have the ability to heal, but this took a lot of energy.

Taygete - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The goddess turned Taygete into a doe, and since in this form Zeus raped her, any distinction between the Titaness in her human form and in her doe form is blurred.
As Pindar conceived the myth-element in his third Olympian Ode, "the doe with the golden horns, which once Taygete had inscribed as a sacred dedication to Artemis Orthosia," ("right-minded" Artemis) was the very Cerynian Hind that Heracles later pursued.
For the knowledgeable poet, the transformation was incomplete, and the doe-form became an offering.

Earlier views of the constellation held it to be various things, predominantly a stag.
Together with the constellation Sagitta, and the association of this area of the sky (the Zodiac of Scorpio) with Artemis, this may be the origin of the myth of the Cerynian Hind, one of The Twelve Labours of Herakles.
The stars of the constellation Hercules can be connected in an alternative way, which graphically shows the hero in an athletic pose and holding a club.
