Cessna 140 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Between the 120 and the 140, Cessna sold 7,000 airplanes in the five years that the aircraft were produced.
The final variant of the Cessna 140 was the 140A which had a standard Continental C-90 engine producing 90 hp (67 kW), aluminum covered wings and a single strut replacing the dual "V" struts and jury struts fitted on earlier models.
Common modifications to the Cessna 120 and 140 include "metalized" wings, where the fabric is replaced with sheet aluminum, and the installation of landing gear extenders to reduce the tendency of the aircraft to nose-over on application of heavy braking.

Cessna 170 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cessna 170 is a light, single-engine, general aviation aircraft that was produced by the Cessna Aircraft Company between 1948 and 1956.
The earliest Cessna 170s were essentially four-seat versions of the popular Cessna 140 two-seater, equipped with a more powerful Continental O-300 145 hp engine and additional fuel tanks.
In 1956 Cessna introduced an aircraft that was essentially a nose-wheel-equipped 170B with a square fin and designated it the Cessna 172 Skyhawk.

Cessna, however, didn't have a design ready to go, where most other manufactures had been cranking out two-place training/recreational aircraft before the war.
The littlest Cessnas are not easy to tell apart and, for most of us, it was a proud day when we finally understood the subtle differences between the three basic models of two-place classic Cessnas, the 120, 140 and 140A.
It's unclear, however, whether the 120 was to be an economy model of the 140 or the 140 was to be the luxury version of the 120.

My girlfriend and I bought our 1947 Cessna 140 as a partnership while we were living in Arizona.
Like the earlier Aeronca Champ, the 140 was not overly blessed with horsepower, so our flights were most often conducted down low enough so that we could wave to farmers in their fields as we slowly chugged by.
We found that even though the cabin was tiny, as long as we removed the seat cushions and replaced them with our sleeping bags, we could pack in air mattresses, a tent, soda cooler, lawn chairs, a change of clothes, camera equipment, navigational materials, and more, and then head out for an extended airborne trip.
