		The first Cex album, Cells, was a compilation of tracks Kidwell had been working on for several years, and was released in 1998 by his own CD-R label, Underscore, while he was still at Dulaney High School in Timonium, Maryland.
		All of the Cex releases up to this time were classified as IDM (Intelligent dance music) and had very little vocals or lyrics for the most part.
		Shortly thereafter, he married Roby Newton (from the band Milemarker), and reorganized Cex as a three-piece: Kidwell, Newton, and Cale Parks (from the bands Joan of Arc and Aloha).

		This Cex disc is a reissue of Ryjan Kidwell's 2001 sophomore album, a hard-to-find CD that came out on the 555 Recordings imprint.
		Considering this, they're pretty impressive: "Friends Fall Down" is a piece of dark, videogame influenced electro that lays a bunch of vocal samples onto a dense techno backbone, "Monster-Face Pills" is a rapid (though bland) slab of typical electronica, and "Bunky" is a messy albeit entertaining gob of deranged IDM.
		Cex is one of the scene's modern leaders, and Starship Galactica stands to be seen as one of the genre's more important records a few years from now.
