  Walter Mondale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Walter Frederick "Fritz" Mondale (born January 5, 1928 in Ceylon, Minnesota) is an American politician and member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.
He was also a two-term US Senator from Minnesota and the Democratic Party nominee for president in 1984 against the incumbent, Republican Ronald W. Reagan, who was reelected in a landslide victory when Mondale carried only his home state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia.
Walter Frederick ("Fritz") Mondale was born on January 5, 1928, in Ceylon, Minnesota, the son of Theodore Sigvaard Mondale, a Methodist minister, and Claribel Cowan Mondale.

Ceylon in Green County, Pennsylvania is about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh where I had been living since 1996.
Ceylon in Erie County Ohio is 50 mile West of Cleavland, and Ceylon, in Adams county Indiana was about 40 miles south of Fort Wayne.
Approaching Ceylon there was another large billboard which made clear residents were proud of the origin of their name.

Harry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in his community, serving on the REC Board in Hancock County, the Forest City Farmers Co-op Elevator Board, the Forest City Creamery Board and as a trustee for Immanuel Lutheran.
He is survived by four sons: David of Margate City, N.J., Carl and his wife, Bonnie, of Spring Valley, Minn., Dennis of Lime Springs, and Lorin and his wife, Janet, of Spring Valley; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Novak, of Fertile.

The ruling fell well short of what the Democrats wanted: throwing out all absentee votes already cast and mailing new ballots to everyone, whether they asked for a new one or not.
