The Chachapoyas civilization was located in the northern regions of the Andes in present-day (A republic in western South America; achieved independence from Spain in 1821; was the heart of the Inca empire from the 12th to 16th centuries) Peru.
The Chachapoyas people built the great fortress of Kuélap, with four hundred buildings and massive exterior stone walls, to defend against the (additional info and facts about Huari) Huari around 800 C.E..
