I’m sure that Hedrick, with all his talk about it being an honor to compete for your country, was sincere in that he wanted to bring the US a gold medal in the team pursuit and wanted the best US skaters to help try do it.
Hedrick’s goal would have been lost even if they had won the team pursuit, as Davis won the gold in the 1000m today.
I think it’s a shame the way the media jumped on to the Chad “I want five golds” Hedrick train so quickly and then glorified his mission as if it was the most noble thing ever, and anyone who didn’t sacrifice their own dreams to help was selfish.
