The Ari (1534-1572) / Appendix A: From the Authentic Sources / Interview with the Future / Books / Rav Michael Laitman ...
Chaim Vital wrote everything he’d heard during that time, and what he’d written comprised the twenty volumes of the writings of the Ari.
Chaim Vital began his studies with the Ari at a very early age, and studied with him for only 18 months, until the death of the Ari.
Even Chaim Vital did not have the sufficient knowledge to comprise a comprehensive and concise method, suitable for every soul that descends to this world, despite the tremendous efforts he made to preserve those texts for us.

Rabbi Chaim Vital (sometimes referred to as Rabbi Chaim Vital Calabrese, since his family was from Calabria, Italy) was born 1st Cheshvan in the jewish year 5303 (that is 1543 CE).
Rabbi Chaim remarked that the works of earlier kabbalists, from after the Ramban [Nachmanides, 4955-5030 (1195-1270 CE)] until the Arizal, were built on mortal intellect, whereas the teachings of his master, the Arizal, were revelations received by the Arizal through Divine inspiration (ruach HaKodesh).
Reb Chaim Vital died and was buried in Damascus Syria, his entire grave was moved from the old cemetary in Damascus to Kiriat Malachi in Israel.

The relationship between the men is a troubled one from the outset, and becomes even worse when Chaim takes a fancy to Luria’s daughter, Francesa, and Luria explicitly forbids him to love her.

R' Chaim Vital writes in the Shaar HaKavanos that in order to simplify his task in recording the Arizal's nusach, he based himself on the foremost nusach Sefard siddur of his time, that published in Venice in 5284 (1524) by Daniel Bomberg, about ten years before the Arizal was born.
Until Rabbi Remer came along, no one had reconstructed R' Chaim Vital's version of the Arizal's nusach with the 5284 Venice Siddur on which it was based.
Rav Chaim Vital in Shaar HaKavonas writes that rather than going through the bother of recording the entire nusach of the Arizal, he would simply note those places in which his Rebbe's nusach differed from that of the 5284 siddur.
