A nephew of Lubavitch leader Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, he is praised by leaders of nearby communities and visitors to Vilnius for his 10 years of trying to supply local Jews with kosher food, a religious education and opportunities for engaging in Jewish ritual.
Krinsky complained to the Forward that his opponents are trying to "mix in here an argument which ended long ago" and characterized Alperovitch's claim of communal dislike for Hasidim "an open lie." To prove his point, Krinsky noted he had been invited by Alperovitch in 1994.
Krinsky countered that Burshtein was brought in so that Alperovitch could have a rabbi he controlled, in order to claim millions of dollars in restitution properties that may be delivered by the Lithuanian government under pending legislation.

Krinsky brought the treasure to the board of the Agudas Chassidei Chabad (Union of Chabad Chasidim), the policy-making body for the Lubavitch movement, which is also the beneficiary of the rebbe's estate.
Krinsky, Mindel and 20 other board members studied the handwritten pages and decided, by consensus, to publish them in parts as they are analyzed and notated -- rather than waiting for all the volumes to be completed, which could take years.
Although Krinsky was not directly involved in the elections, the battle was seen as a contest between his supporters and opponents.

Krinsky has been building the Jewish Community in Lithuania for 10 years now, and he argues that Burstein was brought in only after it became clear that there would be restitution funds to be claimed.

The most dramatic example is Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, where Chabad Rabbi Sholom Krinsky has been demanding that the Jewish community recognize him as chief rabbi and that it fire the new rabbi it hired, Chaim Burshtein.
The fracas, which sometimes erupted into violence, spilled over last year into the larger Jewish and secular world, as Krinsky tried to draw international Jewish organizations and even the European Parliament into the struggle.
The role of chief rabbi was never something to which Chabad emissaries aspired in the past, says Rabbi Moshe Rose, former head of the Conference of European Rabbis, which represents the continent's non-Chabad Orthodox rabbinic leadership.
