Bicycle chain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A bicycle chain is a chain that transfers power from the pedals to the drive-wheel of a bicycle thus propelling it.
The chain in use on modern bicycles is a roller chain with a 1/2" pitch.
Before the safety bicycle, bicycles did not have chains and the pedals were attached directly to the drive-wheel, thus limiting top speed by the diameter of the wheel and resulting in very dangerous designs with front wheels as large as possible.

 Chain Maintenance
Chain durability is affected by riding style, gear choice, whether the bicycle is ridden in rain or snow, type of soil in the local terrain, type of lubricant, lubrication techniques, and the sizes and condition of the bicycle's sprockets.
The rivets that hold the chain together run through the middle of the bushings, and the rollers roll around the outside of the bushings, so both the inside and the outside surfaces of the bushings are subject to wear.
The major cause of chain "stretch" is wearing away of the metal where the rivet rotates inside of the bushing (or the "bushing" part of the inside plate) as the chain links flex and straighten as the chain goes onto and off of the sprockets.

 Class Template chain
Chains are used by filtering streams and stream buffers to manage their underlying sequence of Filters and Devices.
When a chain is used for output, data passes through the first filter in the chain, then through the second filter, and so on, and eventually reaches the Device at the end of the chain.
When a chain is used for input, data travels in the opposite direction, beginning at the Device at the end of the chain, then passing through the filters in reverse order.

 chain life on a bicycle
Those who regularly keep their chains clean (not just the outside, but the interior bushings, where the real wear occurs) get much longer life than those who don't.
First, the shorter chainstays mean the chain is frequently bending/twisting at a nastier angle than on a bike with longer chainstays.
What happens is that the stretched chain tries to wear them down to match their stretched shape, but the best the cog can do is have its profile rearranged, with the result that the parts that engage the chain are worn off.

Here's a chain for a scarf or belt inspired by some gold polyester necklaces in Marc Jacob's Spring collection and by the scarves on the cover of Teva Durham's book, Loop-d-Loop, but with one big exception: fulling.

When the chain has reached the desired length, you are ready to full the chain.

Towards that end, the Chain API models a computation as a series of "commands" that can be combined into a "chain".
To maximize the usefulness of the Chain of Responsibility pattern APIs, the fundamental interface contracts are defined in a manner with zero dependencies other than an appropriate JDK.
In addition, separation of a computation into discrete commands that operate on a general purpose context allows easier creation of commands that are unit testable, because the impact of executing a command can be directly measured by observing the corresponding state changes in the context that is supplied.
