  Chainmail
Chainmail is a material used to make armour, and consists of small rings of metal put together to form a mesh.
Chainmail has been used at least since the time of the Roman Empire, and was an important armour material up until fully articulated plate armour became available.
Historically, the rings composing a chainmail armour would be riveted or welded shut, to reduce the chance of the rings splitting open when subjected to a thrusting attack or a hit by an arrow.

: RevolutionSF - Dungeons and Dragons: Chainmail : Review
Chainmail is a miniatures combat game for Dungeons and Dragons, not quite a supplement and not quite a spin-off game: with all the DandD references it can't quite stand alone as a game, but the rules have been changed too comprehensively for DandD players to pick it up without a little study.
Chainmail is based on the rules of Dungeons and Dragons Third Edition, streamlined to allow simpler, quicker battles by dropping many of the intricacies and details of the game in favor of speed.
Chainmail includes a setting and background story only nominally related to the standard Greyhawk environment of DandD3, and which will be featured in the official Chainmail game league, but the setting is easily disposible if players are more interested in their own games.

Chainmail is a medieval miniatures wargame created by Jeff Perren and Gary Gygax.
