 Chairman Bryant Admits Corruption in Government & Denounces U. N. Sanctions
The Chairman of the National Transition Government of Liberia (NTGL), Charles Gyude Bryant has admitted that there is rampant corruption in the power sharing government.
Chairman Bryant used the occasion to issue an uncompromising warning to those who engage into ritualistic killings, noting that any perpetrators caught and found guilty will face the full weight of the law, adding that he would not hesitate to sign a death warrant for any person convicted of such heinous acts.
Meanwhile, Chairman Bryant has vehemently denounced the extension of United Nations Sanctions on the nation’s diamond and timber industries, describing the sanction.

 Chairman of Transitional Government Asks Security Council to Lift Sanctions on Liberia
It is hoped that, through the efforts of the Liberian Government and with the support of the international community, the development activities of the country will benefit fully in the future from the properly managed use of revenues derived from the country’s natural resources.
Regarding Chairman Bryant’s plea to lift sanctions, his delegation agreed that sanctions had a punitive impact on the efforts of the Transitional Government to bring stability to the country.
While it was awaiting the decision of the Council to lift sanctions on diamonds, the Government took cognizance of, and extended its appreciation to, the United States for its decision to unilaterally lift sanctions on the import of diamonds from Liberia.

J.D. Hodo Merriam, addressing a news conference yesterday in Monrovia, said Speaker Dweh should be suspended from government and investigated if he cannot prove his allegation that the Chairman of the National Transitional Government of Liberia is keeping US$4 million.
Merriam, who is the former Chairman of the National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL), a party to which Speaker Dweh belongs, said “it is unfortunate that Speaker Dweh is always antagonizing Chairman Bryant, using propaganda.
He said the government also needs to investigate the recent revelation that Speaker Dweh is planning to overthrow the Gyude Braynt-led transitional government.

The Governing Council in its first meeting a week ago Monday set up a subcommittee made up of five or six of the members of the council to make recommendations to the council on the possible establishment of a tribunal to try people for crimes against humanity and so forth.
