  Organisation of African Unity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) or Organisation de l'Unité Africaine (OUA) was established on May 25, 1963.
It was disbanded July 9, 2002 by its last chairman, South African Thabo Mbeki and replaced by the African Union.
Its intended purpose was to promote the unity and solidarity of the African States and act as a collective voice for the continent.

In order to help the South African police improve its investigative policies and procedures, and the skills of its personnel, police officers of various countries with the requisite skills and experience should be invited to South Africa to observe and, as appropriate, advise South African police personnel on the conduct of investigations.
We are deeply appreciative of similar initiatives that individual countries, non-governmental organizations, local communities and even single individuals have taken, as part of their contribution to the common effort to deny the apartheid system all international sustenance.

In the spring of 1992, the Sudanese Army launched a major military campaign that resulted in an intense round of fighting and eventually brought the SPLA to peace talks that were convened in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Abuja talks (which later became referred to as "Abuja I") were sponsored by the Nigerian dictator Ibrahim Babangida, who at that time was also Chairman of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which was (and is) adamantly opposed to secession anywhere in Africa, including Sudan.
Garang continued to propose the preservation of Sudan's territorial integrity and the formation of a new "democratic, secular government." Machar again stood publicly (but allegedly falsely) for the fragmentation of Sudan into two independent states, and the liberation of southern Sudan from Arab Islamist rulers.
