The history of the city of Chaiyaphum dates back to the Khmer Empire in the 12th century, when it was a small city on the route from Angkor to Prasat Singh (Kanchanaburi province).
Chaiyaphum is renowned as a center for the Thai silk industry.

Most people probably know that Chaiyaphum is a northeastern province but, I suspect, they would be hard pressed to place the small Isan province on the map.
Not only is Chaiyaphum not a popular tourist destination, it is not even on any route that leads to popular tourist places.
With an area of 12,778 square kilometres, Chaiyaphum is covered with 3,000 square kilometres of verdant forests or about 23% of its area that straddles four national parks.

Chaiyaphum is an old city dating back to the time when the Khmer Empire was at the pinnacle of its power.
When Ayutthaya was the capital, Chaiyaphum appeared on a map during the reign of King Narai the Great as a city under the administration of Nakhon Ratchasima.
In 1817, Lae, a nobleman in Chao Anuwong's (Lord of Vientiane) court, took his family and friends across the Makhong River to settle at Ban Nong Nam Khun (Nong E Chan) which is now in the area of Amphoe Sung Noen in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Ok I have been to literally hundreds of Thai restaurants, and found them to be almost always equivalent in quality, that is to say very good, but this time I have an exception, albeit a small one.
Chaiyaphum is definitely a little bit above the average, and its food has that extra touch that makes it worth a special trip.
Chaiyaphum is right in front the elevator on the fourth floor of a building above the Lotteria fast food store across Laforet in Harajuku.
