Chalchihuitlicue the Water Goddess became the sun, but the world was destroyed by floods, with what men surviving being turned into fish.
It is not hard to see how Tezcatlipoca was renowned for his destructive and generally negative properties.

The finely carved figure belongs to a sizable group of kneeling females that display costume elements identifying them as water deities called Chalchihuitlicue ("she of the jade skirt") in Nahuatl, the language spoken by the Aztecs.
In Aztec religion, the water goddess was the wife of the rain god Tlaloc, an ancient deity that had long been worshipped throughout Mesoamerica.
Chalchihuitlicue symbolized the purity and preciousness of spring, river, and lake water that was used to irrigate the fields.

The ceremony involved the midwife shouting war cries in honor of the battle the mother fought giving birth, and for the woman having become a warrior and capturing a baby.

Chalchihuitlicue, thanks for the comment on my anime piece & figured I would do the same when I saw this cute piece.
I like the bold dark shadings and the costume ruffles look sleek and sharp.

Basically, what you do is you lay shapes cut out of paper down on photopaper, and then turn on a light.
The shapes that were put down leave white areas, and everything else is burned fl.
I did all the shading by hand as separate vector shapes.
