 Collecting Chalcidoidea
Chalcidoidea includes 19 families of parasitic hymenopterans that range in size from 0.1 mm to 45 mm, often with bright metallic coloration and intricate sculpture.
Chalcidoidea is characterized by highly reduced forewing venation consisting of (at most) a single vein complex subdivided into submarginal, marginal, postmarginal and stigmal veins (Chalcid wing).
This may be due, in part (and partly true), to the perception that Chalcidoidea is a ‘difficult’ group to work on given their small size (usually <2 mm in length), limited and plastic morphological features, and that "specialized" collection/curation techniques are required for proper acquisition and preservation.

A second area of research emphasizes the systematics of the Aphelinidae, which are generally parasites of aphids, whiteflies and scale insects.
Most analyses of relationships have been based on internal and external morphological traits, but molecular techniques are now being applied to understanding the higher phylogeny of the Chalcidoidea and the relationships among species of the genus Encarsia (Aphelinidae).

Chalcidoidea is one superfamily represented by 19 families in the nearctic region, being the most important in biocontrol of agricultural pests.
The authors collected information on the Chalcidoidea present in the States of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León, and also collected wasps of some families in different localities and identified them.
As a result, 18 families, 196 genera and 361 species have been recorded for those States; only Tetracampidae has not been recorded.
