Ur Of The Chaldees was the home town of Abram (see Abraham), who became the father of Isaac and the grandfather of Jacob/Israel.
The ancient city was located in southern Mesopotamia, near the Euphrates River (see The Tigris-Euphrates Valley), about 150 miles (240 kilometers) southeast of Babylon.
