Coal Chamber were never revolutionary - Korn had been working with a similar sound three years prior to their debut - but somehow I just can't help but bang my head and shake my body whenever I hear songs like "Sway" or "Loco." I suppose you could call them a guilty pleasure of mine.
An anniversary edition of Coal Chamber was released last year by Roadrunner, including a fully remastered disc by Ted Jensen (Fear Factory, Delerium, OOMPH!), six bonus tracks (including the band's original demos), and recent retrospective interviews with all original band members, not to mention a DVD including live performances and the classic "Loco" video.
In conclusion, Coal Chamber may not have been the most talented or original group to go down in history, but they did deliver three interesting albums of good, dark fun, and are a must for anyone scouting out the better bands from the murky nu-metal genre.
