It is named after Captain Jacques de Chambly, to whom the seigniory of Chambly was granted in 1672.
Chambly Fort was first built in 1665; and the place was a strategic point in the defence of New France against the English and the Iroquois.
The combined population of the three municipalities is 2,608 [in 1948], of which Chambly Basin has 1,423 and Chambly Canton, 1,185.

 The Church of St. Stephen de Chambly
In the case of the Anglican Cathedral of Québec, built between 1799 and 1804 in the former capital of the French colony which was also the seat of the first Catholic bishop, it had been decided to call in an expert and use an English architectural style.
Chambly became a French fort in the 18th century.
Stephen of Chambly can therefore be included amongst those churches which illustrate the persistence of traditional styles in religious architecture at the beginning of the 19th century.

Origin: 'Chambly' resulted from a 1982 cross between 'Sparkle', a commercial cultivar in eastern Canada previously popular for its high fruit flavor (Craig, 1979) and 'Honeoye', a high-yield cultivar with large fruit size well-adapted to the northeast (Estabrooks and Luffman, 1989).
Description: 'Chambly' plant is medium size and not much vigorous; it has 4 to 6 inflorescences of 10 to 20 flowers.

The company is receiving a financial contribution of $3.6 million from Investissement Québec as well as $300 000 from Emploi Québec, enabling the creation of 600 jobs over two years.
"This is the largest investment in Chambly's history and we are very enthusiastic about the opportunities it presents." The Deputy Premier said she was very happy for the region.
