Champagne socialist (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.cs.umd.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
A champagne socialist is a derogatory term originating in the UK for a person who purports to support socialism ideologically, but disregards this ideology in the course of their daily lives, having been made successful due to capitalism.
The label arose from the (perceived) activity of this stereotype to propose toasts to famous socialists with champagne.
Those who have been labelled as champagne socialists include Geoffrey Robinson, ex-Paymaster General and chairman of Coventry City Football Club, Gavyn Davies, BBC chairman (resigned January 29 2004 over the findings of the Hutton Inquiry), former Labour party donator and Goldman Sachs banker and John Prescott, the current Deputy Prime Minister.

The Champagne Socialist is the (now-defunct) personal website of San Francisco-based filmmaker Nick Ryan.
Started in September 2004 as a left-of-center anti-Bush weblog, that goal was quickly discarded after I realized that the site had little to differentiate it from the other +5,000,000 anti-Bush websites on the internet, save for a catchy ironic title and an almost total lack of insightful original commentary.
True to its original form, The Champagne Socialist continues to have virtually nothing at all to do with either champagne or socialism.

Champagne socialist full of bubbles: Maurice Strong profits from pushing leftist ideas
Strong revels in telling fawning audiences that he is "a socialist in ideology," but "a capitalist in methodology." His socialist core would explain his attraction to revolutions against rich, industrialized civilizations.
And his membership on a dozen international business and environmental organizations would explain why he thinks such a revolution might spring from a small, semi-private gathering of world leaders.

Chardonnay socialist - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chardonnay socialist is a derogatory Australasian term used to describe those on the political left with comfortable middle-class (or better) incomes, tertiary education, and a taste for the finer things in life.
The term "chardonnay socialist" is regularly used by people from throughout the political spectrum to criticise opponents.
For example, Australian left-wing "true believers" levelled it at supporters of the failed republic referendum of 1999 (where the vote was split not along conventional party lines but very much along socio-economic divides, with the rich overwhelmingly supporting the change while the less well-off were opposed – a superficially bizarre pattern for a non-economic issue).

According to her own words, she is a socialist because "she wants her taxes to help the poor, and she believes in social justice." Well, those two desires alone do not a socialist make.
For right-wingers, she is perfectly socialist, as any and all use of government beyond providing favors for energy and military corporations is considered to be perfectly socialist.
She's running around calling herself a socialist, when all she really seems to mean by it is "I want a welfare state." Those are two different positions (FDR, for example, wanted a welfare state, but I would hardly call him a socialist).
